MARIE SWAJESKI RAINBOW CAMPAIGN
Marie Swajeski, founder of Delaware Children’s Theatre (DCT), was inducted into the prestigious Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame on October 17 for her decades of serving children through theatre arts. There she joins such esteemed inductees as Dr. Jill Biden and State Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester.
Over 40 years ago, Marie began taking performers from her Rainbow Players to work with students in local schools. The goal was to bring productions to those who did not get the chance to see live theatre. To Marie, the rainbow symbolized her belief that it takes many different shapes and colors, working in harmony, to build a rainbow. To build a better world. And that all begins with our children.
In honor of Marie’s groundbreaking work in the arts and contribution to local youth, DCT is delighted to announce the Marie Swajeski Rainbow Campaign. Our goal is to raise $18,000, since the 18th of September is officially designated as Marie Swajeski Day in the State of Delaware. But there is a deadline: the Campaign will end on December 31, 2019.
Here’s the good news: funds raised through the Campaign will qualify for a matching grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, which will help with much needed money for upkeep of our historic building and production support. Housed in the historic New Century building, DCT has been a community treasure for 47 seasons, but to keep it operating as a viable source of quality family entertainment, we need financial assistance.
DCT is almost solely dependent on ticket sales for our productions. We strive to keep prices low so that theatre is an affordable experience for all. But that does not give us much extra to put into productions and keep the theatre in top working order, so we rely on grants for assistance. And dedicated patrons like you. Can you help? Any money donated between now and December 31, 2019, counts toward the total.
If your life has been touched in any way by DCT, and you would like to honor the work of our extraordinary founder Marie Swajeski, please help us reach our $18,000 goal by December 31. Every donation, no matter how small, is sincerely appreciated! And all donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
To donate by check, please write Marie Swajeski Rainbow Campaign in the memo line
