On December 29th, Marie was on her flight back to Texas from visiting family for the holidays when she started to have a headache. The next day she was experiencing numbness in her face, right arm, and had trouble speaking. She was then taken to the Emergency Department immediately. The symptoms continued to worsen, and she had full right-sided weakness and loss of speech. Imaging showed she was having bleeding in the brain from a hemorrhagic stroke. The Neurosurgeon was hopeful the bleeding would stop but then her entire body became weak, and she was rushed to have brain surgery to stop the bleeding and remove a piece of her skull to help with the swelling. She was then in the ICU for several days needing medication to decrease the brain swelling and control her blood pressure. She continues to have limited speech and inability to use her right arm with right leg weakness.
When her daughter Allison was able to go visit she noticed slight changes in Marie’s expression and cognitive abilities. She then spoke with the neuro team, they ordered another CT scan and found that the bleeding was down, but Marie had new severe swelling in her brain. She was then brought back to the ICU for more medication to decrease brain swelling. She is now out of the ICU and making progress. It will be a long road ahead as she will need 24/7 care. She is currently receiving all care in Texas until she is able to come home to Minnesota.
We are creating this GoFundMe for all the extra costs that will come with her hospital stay, rehabs, medical bills, and care that she will need for the future. We are reminded every day that this recovery will be a marathon, not a sprint. Marie has a long road ahead but as we all know, she is a very STRONG and independent woman. We know she’s got this and will fight every day.
We understand times can be hard right now and some cannot donate. A simple prayer or share of the post is very well appreciated.
Thank you so much for all the support and love. We will be sure to keep everyone updated and give her all your sweet messages.
