Maria's Fight
A couple days ago we received news that no one wants to hear... Cancer. Hodgkin's Lymphoma to be exact. My sister received the news that she is currently at Stage 2 Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Lets start at the beginning...
A few months ago Maria started experiencing pain in her shoulder. She didn't think anything other than her sleeping on it wrong. Weeks went by and the pain progressed. She noticed a huge Lump near her neck/shoulder. Right away she went through Ct scans and X-rays to see what exactly this bump was. After a week she recieved the report that states she had two masses. One located near her neck/shoulder (collar bone area) and one pushing against her heart. But they didn't know exactly what these masses were and she needed to get more tests done.
Next was the appointment with the Oncologist. The oncologist suggested a biopsy, which she did. After an anxious week of waiting for the results they call to tell us they didn't receive enough cells and need to operate to remove the mass.
On Thursday, April 6th my sister went into surgery. They removed this mass that was over 4cm big along with her lymph node. The Dr.'s exact words right after surgery were, "Just pray that it's Hodgkin's". No one ever wants to hear those words. We had no choice but to hope for the best.
Its been almost two weeks and we just found out she is currently at Stage 2. But they need to perform a PET scan to see if it has spread. The more places it spreads the higher the stage.
Chemo therapy and radiation is in the works as soon as we know exactly what Stage she is in. Maria was informed that she can not go back to work until she is done with Chemotherapy.
For everyone who knows Maria, knows that she is strong, positive, always smiling, and has a heart of gold. It would mean the world to all of us if you can please donate and help ssupport Maria's Fight.
Maria would like to raise awareness and hope to have a cure for all cancers one day soon!
We would also love if everyone can please include our family and Maria in your prayers.
God Bless
