My name is Maria Grissino. I'm twenty-two and in college working towards a bachelor's degree. I was also born with COPD (or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), which includes scarring of the lungs and widening of the airways, making it harder to breathe on a daily basis. Due to the progressive nature of COPD, I now require supplemental oxygen for physical activity ranging from long walks to class to weight lifting.
Today I am asking for your help to buy a portable oxygen concentrator. The costs include a couple of batteries, a travel bag, the concentrator itself, a lifetime warranty, and the power supplies. These funds will be used so that I can finally travel and go on flights to other countries without having to rent oxygen equipment there (it is very expensive) or rent additional tanks (cumbersome to travel with). With the lifetime warranty, I don't have to worry about being unable to replace it if it does break. And with a portable concentrator, I can charge a battery overnight to use the next day, while also using it as I sleep. It can be taken with me nearly anywhere (except the pool), and I won't have to switch out tanks because it always produces more.
I will benefit from this funding because I want to travel and the process is very complicated. I currently use two re-fillable oxygen tanks for my everyday tasks, but unfortunately bringing the large concentrator that I use to refill these tanks is a liability at least (it's an insurance rental and it's heavy), and an impossibility at worst (I can't take it with me on flights because of its size). For overnight stays, I can usually only stay for a night (or two if I don't go out much).
I would like to raise the money by the end of May so I can go on a trip with my friends to Florida, but if I don't reach my goal I will continue past that date so I can travel one day soon.
Your support would mean so much to me, as I've always wanted to experience the world but have felt hindered because of my health. I would like to get to travel before a lung transplant is necessary because it is a rather risky operation (but luckily it seems I am a ways off from that).
I would be extremely grateful for any help I receive! Any size of donation helps.
