URGENT-school supplies -Haiti

Our Journey
On February 3rd-7th 2018 our team of 19 people had the opportunity to visit the Centre D'etude Luminere, a church, and school in an impoverished area of Mariani, Haiti.  The focus of the trip was to discern if there was a need to help this school. Currently, 60% of the children in this area do not have the financial means to go to school.  Of the 280 students attending the school, 75% of the children need financial assistance.  School is a privilege in Haiti.  To attend the Centre D'etude Luminere School for a year, the cost per child is $250.

We were inspired by the professionalism of the staff and administrators of the school and their compassion to make education better for their students.  What we saw and learned from our trip is driving us to take action and form a partnership with the families and staff at the Centre D'etude Luminere School of Mariani. The teacher in the school have minimal school supplies and are significantly underpaid.  (approximately $165 per month salary). Seven of the fourteen teachers are the primary supporters of their families.  Our long-term goals are to raise funds to support the children and the school in Mariani through scholarships, purchasing classroom materials, and providing teacher training.

However, we have an opportunity to make changes in the next few weeks!


On March 22, 2018, a team of high school students from Naperville, IL will be visiting the Centre D'Luminere School.  They will be able to bring suitcases filled with school supplies for the teachers there.  Having these essential supplies and materials will enable the teachers to greatly improve their lessons.  Shipping school supplies to Haiti is a costly fee.  We are asking for your help.  We would appreciate any donation amount to help provide this school with the necessary materials and supplies to improve the quality of education for the 14 teachers and 280 students at the Centre D'etude Luminere School in Mariani, Haiti.
