Maria's Medical Fund
Donation protected
This GoFundMe campaign is dedicated to Maria Casas, a mother of three, grandmother of two, and a close friend of many.
This fundraising effort is dedicated to helping with the overwhelming finances of the chemotherapy treatments, transportation expenses, medication, and possibility of surgery and further radiation therapy. I am Becci Casas, Maria’s youngest daughter, and this is her story:
My brother who is the oldest of the siblings, Rafael Jr. Casas, wedded in May and the middle sibling, Nick Casas flew out with his wife and son so that our entire family could be together for this celebration. Due to my brother living out of state, and I going to college out of state, whenever the family is all together, it is our parents’ greatest gift when we are able to be together. Just shortly after the wedding, Maria had been feeling unbearably sharp pains in her lower back and abdomen daily and was unable to eat any food without the pain worsening. My father and I had no idea what was happening and it was so difficult to see the strongest person we know in so much pain. We rushed her to the emergency room where they gave her medication for the pain and did some blood work. She was then taken for ultrasounds and was advised to have further tests done in order to see what was happening inside her body, and why she was in so much pain.
After several visits with her team of doctors, CT Scans, PET scans, and blood work, Maria was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer which has now spread to her liver. Although they are not the results that we were hoping for, we finally know why she has been in so much pain, and we now know what steps need to be taken in order to cure this incredible woman I call Mom. Her wonderful team of doctors are continuing to work on the best plan to attack and eliminate the cancer from her body. Maria will need to start chemotherapy and there is a possibility that she will also need radiation and surgery in the future (when the tumors shrink). She has started her 12 chemo treatments which will take place every 2 weeks in which will be scheduled for the next few months. She is still in the beginning stages of her battle with this disease, but with the support and prayers from everyone, we know she will continue to have faith and stay strong throughout this journey and she WILL NOT let this cancer win.
She has a high deductible that must first be met and then she will be responsible for 20% of her bills which still result in a high price to pay. Maria will not be allowed to work for 6 months due to her treatment of chemotherapy, which is also another bump in this obstacle of finances. Any amount of assistance and support is immensely appreciated by Maria and our entire family. Maria was initially not in favor of creating a GoFundMe account but as the medical bills continued to surpass the amount that we imagined, we knew it was time to reach out for help. My mom and our family are so blessed to have so much support from our friends, family, and strangers that have inspired all of us daily. She has received many messages and calls from loved ones over the past couple of weeks since the initial diagnosis, which has given her even more strength and courage to beat this cancer and go back to being the healthy woman she was before. Her spirits are still as high as ever and she has no intentions of giving up any time soon.
We ask that if you would like to help relieve some of the financial stress, please feel free to make a donation. This will allow her to rest and recover, and our family to continue focusing on taking care of her. She asks with a humble heart for your prayers and healing energy, and positive thoughts to be sent to her and to our family at this time. Many thanks in advance on her behalf and God bless.
