Maria's tuition at Longy

Donation protected

I consider myself one of the most fortunate person in this world. Everyday I get to do what I love the most for a living: music. My days go around teaching music, learning music, sharing with other young and adult my passion for music. Longy School of Music of Bard College has opened the door to me allowing me to finish a Master’s program in Vocal Performance and now a Graduated Performance Diploma with financial aid. The education I have received in these past two years has taken my passion to the next level and I cannot wait to see where it takes me next.

Unfortunately, as you may know Boston is one of the most expensive cities in the country. I do not only have to cover my personal expenses but also cover the percentage left of my tuition. Even though, I work extremely hard and take advantage of every single opportunity that is given to me,  my immigration status as international student only allows me to work 20 hours per week in music related activities.

From a very early age my family has been involved in my music career as they started me in it and continue to support me in all possible ways. Sadly, because of my country’s situation, it becomes impossible for them to provide me with any financial support. They have made many sacrifices in their daily lives to send me as much money as possible. But Venezuela is currently in such a critical stage with so many controls and regulations regarding currency exchange that as citizens, even though it is our right to have access to this currency exchange program, we simply are not allowed to use. My parents have taken the time to visit the institution in charge of this program on a daily basis but have received no answer. I currently owe $15,415 ($8,935 for the Fall Semester, and $6.480 for the Spring). Longy has been considerate and patient enough to wait for me, but since Fall Semester ended in December and we are about to start the Spring, they have given me an ultimatum and I will have to pay at least $8.935 by January 22nd.  As an outcome of not paying this bill I will be withdrawn from the program losing my student visa and require to leave this beautiful country of yours.

This country and society has changed my life forever and I will be forever grateful with every single opportunity I have been given living on American soil. What I ask of you is to give me the opportunity to finish this tough and wonderful marathon I have been running and show the world everything is possible when you sacrifice and set your mind to something. I will continue to share my passion for music through teaching and my voice. I would like to thank every single person that has taken the time to read and contribute this cause of mine.

Your generousity and support will be greatly appreciated!
