In watching the images of poverty and violence endemic in Central America we often wonder what we can do to help. Please join me in this campaign and help a young woman continue her bilingual education through high school.
Eight years ago I lived in Cofradia, Honduras and taught at San Jeronimo Bilingual School (SJBS). While living there, I learned that a bilingual education brought it's graduates many more opportunities than the overcrowded and limiting public education system.
While teaching at SJBS I had pleasure of teaching Maria 1st and 2nd grade. Maria's family is one of the hardest working families I've ever met. Her parents would do anything for her and her brother's education and future. Maria received a full scholarship to attend SJBS and her father currently works as the security guard and handyman for the school.
Maria has now graduated from SJBS and is hoping to attend a bilingual high school and continue her education. However, this will put a major financial burden on the family, making it impossible for her to attend without help.
I have created this scholarship fund to support this amazing, hard-working family and allow Maria to continue her bilingual education. Our goal is to cover the enrollment fee, monthly fees and books for Maria for her entire high school career.
Whatever help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
