Our beautiful daughter, Maria Florentina Jimenez Kerr, was born on 13 February 2019 with a complex congenital heart defect, or congenital heart malformation, and she suffers with pulmonary hypertension.
She was born weighing 1.4 kilos (3.08 lb). She spent the first 7 weeks of her life in hospital, and now, at almost 7 months old she still only 3 kilos (6.6lb). Weight gain for cases like Maria's is slow and arduous, so she was recently fitted with a feeding tube. Her lung condition started to improve after leaving hospital, but has since taken a turn for the worse and she now requires the aid of oxygen more than ever in order to breathe properly.

Last week she underwent an exploratory procedure using an IV catheter.
The diagnosis given to us for Maria was devastating....Her heart defects are various and complex, one of the main problems being that the aorta, the main artery in your heart, is abnormally sized. This, combined with her lung condition and her weight, makes her case complicated, the doctors say * ....It basically comes down to this. Without an operation, one day, we don't know when, but soon, her heart will simply stop working and there will be absolutely nothing we will be able to do to save her life.
* (For those your more medically savvy than I am, the technical diagnosis is as follows:
Complex congenital heart disease type: Cor Tritium Sinistrum + interventricular communication 5.7 mm + partial anomalous connection of left superior pulmonary vein to the vertical vein- innominate vein- VCS - coartation of the aorta with tubular hypoplasia of the traerseaortic arch, and isthmus + severe pulmonary hypertension - mitral stenosis + severe harmonized chronic malnutrition. )
As with many countries, in the public hospitals here in Mexico, they are very not willing to take risks when it comes to surgeries, especially in small babies such as Maria.
Since she is also a British citizen one of our options would have been to return to the UK for medical treatment, but at this moment we have been advised against the long and strenuous journey.

Our only hope at a chance of a future for Maria is to find a doctor in a private institute who would be willing to operate on her. This, or course, will come at a cost....
We have only just been given this heart breaking diagnosis, and we have only just started to investigate alternative hospitals, and fortunately we have spoken to a few optimists willing to meet her, but we don't yet know how much she will need exactly. We have, however, been given a ballpark figure of upwards of $1 million Mexican pesos.
We have been advised that her additional lung condition will not improve on it's own, and will only deteriorate, more than likely at a rapid pace. So time, for Maria, is of the essence.
This is why are asking for your help. We are hoping that with your donations that we can reach out and find a team of doctors that can offer her a solution.
We know there are amazing people all over the world who might not be in the situation to be able to offer financial aid at this moment, but please remember that whatever your circumstances are, you can still help us by sharing this with with your friends and family, and that we're thankful for all of your love and support.
Please help us in whatever way you can to save little Maria's life.
