María Valerio

It Is with great sadness I am here announcing the passing of Maria Valerio. It was just six months ago the family and Maria buried John Valerio (her other half). On October 4th, 2023 at about 2:15am Maria lost her battle with cancer.

Maria was born with a rare condition called EB (Epidermolysis bullosa (ep-ih-dur-MOL-uh-sis buhl-LOE-sah) is a rare condition that causes fragile, blistering skin. The blisters may appear in response to minor injury, even from heat, rubbing or scratching. In severe cases, the blisters may occur inside the body, such as the lining of the mouth or stomach). Aside from this condition Maria had many other complications that developed throughout the years. These conditions didn’t stop Maria from reaching her goals and motivating others.

Maria obtained her associates degree in liberal arts from Hostos Community College this May 2023. She was also admitted to Lehman College to continue her education. As many of you that knew her or had a connection with Maria in some sort way, Maria was very outspoken and was working very hard on spreading awareness on her EB condition.

Even though Maria lost her battle, her legacy will be continued. The family will continue to work on bringing awareness and support to those impacted with EB condition.

Maria will be laid to rest Thursday, October 12th, 2023.
