On February 7th, 2023 around 10:30 AM I came home to my pregnant wife of 8 months sitting on the couch sweating profusely. I immediately asked her what was wrong and she informed me that she could not breathe well. After asking her a few questions about her vision and breathing I realized that she needed immediate medical attention. Upon arrival she was rushed to the emergency department as she had several seizures shortly after we arrived . While in the emergency room her heart stopped for 5 minutes straight and she had to be brought back to life three times. At that moment the doctors decided to do an emergency c section to save my 32 week old daughters life. Fortunately, the doctors were able to save both my wife’s and daughters lives . Maria was in ICU for two days heavily sedated, with tubes down her throat as you can see in the photo above. My daughter Serenity is in a progressive condition in the NICU where she may remain for several weeks. Maria and I have not been able to hold our daughter and we did not get the experience of seeing her being born. We did not get to cut the umbilical cord or see our daughters first breath. Neither did we see her face for her first few hours of life. Our hearts are broken as a family. My wife has not been able to hold our daughter and can only touch her through a plastic incubator. I have not been able to hold her as well. Saphire, Serenity’s older sister, cannot see or touch Serenity because of NICU restrictions. This has been extremely hard to deal with. As of now doctors are not sure when either of them will be released. As a result I will not be able to work and provide for my family as needed for at least the next two months. Doctors have confirmed that my wife and daughter will need my full attention for the foreseeable future. If you know me , you know I am not one to ask for help, but my family needs your help right now. I am a stubborn fighter at heart, but today I come to you now as a father, friend and a husband who needs your help. We appreciate anything given and thank you all for all of your love and support during this extremely difficult time.
