Maria Ramirez's emergency medical expenses

Donation protected
On January 6th, after over a decade of chronic pain, my mother, Maria Ramirez, was told she had a tumor in her spine. On January 15th, she was rushed to Crockett Medical Center ER for unexplained bleeding and uncontrolled pain. She was released and given medicine to help control the pain while we searched for a way to get her tumor diagnosed. On January 20th, my mom went into anaphylactic shock due to the pain medication and was rushed to the ER by ambulance. After learning about my mom's tumor and her health history, the attending doctor had her transferred to HCA Healthcare Kingwood, where Maria spent 6 days and received a preliminary diagnosis of multiple myeloma. Additionally, she suffers from several bone fractures due to the myeloma tumor.

Maria has been an active and dedicated parishioner of the Saint Franics of the Tejas Catholic Church in Crockett, TX. She has devoted her life to being in service to others, caring for child polio survivors in the 80's as a convent worker, and caring for cancer patients in the 90's while studying nursing in Mexico. When she wasn't working or taking care of her family, she was caring for the sick, leading prayer and sharing the gospel, cooking for others, and lending a supportive ear to members of the community. She has raised 3 daughters, who have gone on to pursue careers in the medical, education, and social work fields, and continues to raise a daughter who will graduate high school in 2025.

The only income source in the household (which includes my mother, father, and 16 year old sister) is my father's social security benefits, as Maria's pain and health make her unable to work any longer. The family lives in a small town in rural East Texas, making the necessary hospital and clinic visits a costly and time-consuming event. Maria has gone decades without health insurance, so her recent hospitalizations, ambulance transports, and medications will be paid out-of-pocket. Our family has received immense moral support that has helped us regain optimism for our situation. Any financial assistance to cover my mother's medical expenses in January will help relieve our family's financial stress as we continue to go through the referral process to see an oncologist and start cancer treatment.
