What you are about to read is an appeal from my heart, as it involves my beloved mother, Maria Eugenia Mayer, who passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016. She was only 61-years-old.
She was born on July 27, 1955, in Maracaibo, Venezuela and came to the United States in the 1980’s.
Sadly, her health really deteriorated in May 2016. Her diabetes caused her to become disorientated and my dad and I had to drive her to work. In August of 2016, I had to rush her to the emergency room when she began shaking and could not breathe. I remember holding her hand in the hospital as she told me, “I’m scared.” I was scared too, but I drove to the nearby pharmacy to get her the medication she needed.
Next thing, my mother began having horrible sciatic nerve pain in the left side of her body. This increasingly got worse until she became bedridden. Towards the end of her life, my mother could barely eat.
At least, she passed away in the residence my parents have rented for the past 24 years. My mother is no longer in any kind of pain. She is with her parents in heaven. I wish her peace.
Just like how my mother braved a new world when she moved here in her 20’s, I will try to follow in her footsteps in this new life without her. However, my dad and I lack the finances to cover her funeral expenses. My father is 74-years-old and depends on social security to survive. We have barely scraped together enough money for the flowers thanks to my uncle (her brother), but we still have $4,100 in expenses to pay to the mortuary.
Any contribution helps. I am in charge of the expenses. We need them as soon as possible. Thank you for your support.
If you wish to see my mother’s obituary, it is featured on the Cabot and Sons mortuary website here:

In case you are interested in attending my mother’s funeral, it will be held at St. Therese Church in Alhambra on Friday, January 13th at 6pm.
