We are devastated and shocked by the news that Maria is no longer with us. Mothers should not be allowed to die, and children should not face losing their mothers. Children should not have to cope with a life, where they shall live with the loss of their mother. The loss is enormous for us as her friends, who realize that we will not be able to share the future with her. How big is it then, for the children and for Everest? Maria was extra in everything; happy, outspoken, upset, friendly, and full of energy. The sun was shining around her, and she had numerous friends around the world. Maria made things happen. Everything went fast when Maria was on to something, she was queen of planning and projects. The laughter was always close at hand and there was always time for a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, a moment in the sun or a walk.
Many have asked Everest what they can do for him and his family. If you can be available as a fellow human being and friend, to just be there, ask the question how they feel and what you can do to help, or just do something practical for the family, that's really great. Talk about Maria, help the children keep her memory alive. Share photos and your memory of Maria with them.
We live 2 hours away and it is not as easy as to bring them dinner for an evening, or to go and play some football with the children and talk about their fantastic mother. Is there anything else you can do for the family? Well, if you have the opportunity, donate a penny. Everest will have to be the sole provider for several years to come. His main tasks are the wellbeing of the children and to spend time with them and make them grow up as the amazing people they will become. I think there are many of us who want to help the family, and a contribution through this crowdfunding is one way. They will need clothes, shoes, registration for riding school and football school in the coming years. Maybe visit family in Zimbabwe eventually. Contributions through this initiative go directly to Everest's account for the kids, minus 3% in transaction fees to the GoFundMe site. This is only an example of how you can support the family, there are of course many different ways.
Maria leaves a big, big void behind. But there are many of us around the world who will do our very best to ensure that the family will be alright. We will tell Nellie and Lucas and Shawn about their fantastic mother and stepmother and tell all the stories and memories we have experienced together. Maria will always be in our hearts and always be with us.
