Community Leader & Mother, Maria Needs Your Help
Donation protected
My name is Vince Chan, and I need your help to support my mom’s recovery. My mother, Maria (Mitet) Sanchez-Chan, is an in-jail ministry volunteer, a catechist at several churches, an account executive in her career, a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and most importantly – the rock of our family.
In late February 2022, she suffered from a severe headache and intense vomiting. My dad rushed her to the hospital where she was soon diagnosed with an aneurysm. Soon after she was on the road to recovery, but then suffered from additional strokes that left her with limited speech, motor skills, and memory loss.
Even in the face of all this, she’s proven to be an incredibly strong woman. With the love and care of her sisters, friends, extended family, husband, and many prayers, my mom Mitet is on a path to healing after enduring 3 procedures to ensure no further complications. She’s shown amazing improvement in the last few months regaining her many faculties. But, her journey is far from over.
In her absence, both our immediate and extended family have been impacted. Our home usually hosts out-of-town relatives, birthdays, celebrations, and milestones which are all coordinated by my mother. If someone is in need of spiritual guidance or a shoulder to lean on, she is there to lend a hand. This extends to the time she spends helping with our parish and even troubled youth whom she talks and prays with. My mom is an example to us all and it's been a painful reminder not to have her in our daily lives.
As an only child, it’s been a rough past few months supporting my parents financially, spiritually, and mentally. And unfortunately, this July, our family is faced with numerous medical and insurance bills which are quickly compounding to $15,000 and growing, plus diminishing financial support as her short-term disability and insurance coverage come to an end. We’re appealing many of these which have been incredibly time-consuming and takes away from our focus on my mother’s health. I’ve never been in a position to ask for help, but in all honesty, we’ve hit an all-time low. And as much as I wish I could fully support my parents, I’m just not in that position to do so yet.
Your donations will contribute directly towards:
- Initial Emergency Care Costs
- At-home living expenses due to loss of income
- Padding for current gaps in medical coverage
- Mounting Medical and Insurance Bills
- Explore higher-quality care facilities to address ongoing conditions
- Her extended care and unforeseen medical costs as she starts her years-long rehab journey
- Making our home rehab friendly and her at-home care once she is discharged
With your help, we can provide the best care and support for my mom. If you’ve ever met my mom, she’s likely made an impact on your life. That is just who she is: a strong woman with a huge heart that welcomes all. Whether it’s a donation or even sharing this GoFundMe, a little goes a long way as we hope to transition her from a longer-term care facility to back home with us. Thank you again for your love and support for my mother, Maria.
