On September 20, 2023, Maria was rushed to the emergency room with unbearable pain in her left leg. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with an infection caused by a flesh-eating bacteria, necrosis fasciitis. Undiagnosed Diabetes caused the infection to spread rapidly. It was necessary to amputate her leg to prevent the infection from reaching the rest of her body. At that time, she had a 50/50 chance of survival. After two weeks, Maria has undergone five surgeries to help remove the infection, with 90% success.
As you can imagine, Maria’s life will never be the same; learning to live as an amputee will take much time, help, and care.
Maria was working at a private school at the time of this incident. Her insurance had been suspended and would have been reinstated in November. With what has happened, she will not be able to work or have any insurance to cover expenses.
Maria’s family has started this GoFundMe to help with her current and future medical expenses. In addition, the funds will go toward any lifestyle and home adjustments she will need. One hundred percent of all funds will go to Maria and her care.
To know Maria is to love her. It pains us all to see her going through this. She has always been the most generous, warm, and loving person. Even now, she has the most positive attitude and says, “I was given another chance at life.” She is a woman of strong faith and truly believes God has a plan for her.
We, her family, appreciate you taking the time to read this and donating any little bit you can to help her on her road to recovery. May God bless you.
