Mari's story:
Mari is a normal 12 year old little girl who until last week was happy and healthy and always smiling, she has a contagious smile that just makes you happy! She is a 6th grader at North Liberty Elementary School in North Liberty and loves being at school with her friends. Last week Mari had pain in her legs that caused her to be taken to the hospital where they did extensive testing to find the cause of her pain. She was quickly diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, which is a cancer of the blood.
Mari is the big sister of two younger brothers, Matthew 10 and Mason 4, all living a seemingly normal life at home with their Mom and Dad until this terrible disease turned all their lives upside down inside a week. Mom and Dad (Kristy and Jerry) have not only had to figure out how to be at the hospital for their little girl but also be home and try to keep life as normal as possible for their two young boys, all without scaring them and all during a crazy pandemic that keeps all Mari's family from being able to visit her.
Mari will be starting Chemotherapy tomorrow and her treatment will be a very long road of 2 1/2 -3 years. Kristy has had to take leave from her job, and Jerry will have to take significant time off work as well to balance this all out and try and keep their family going, all of which will have a significant impact financially. We created this GoFund Me to try and help offset the loss of income that they will be experiencing so they can continue to stay focused on Mari and her care as well as their young boys. Anything that anyone is able to give would be much appreciated and will go directly to the family for their everyday living expenses that have been severely impacted due to this illness.
