Marg's Amputation Equipment Fund
This is very hard for me . Anyone who knows me well knows the difficulty I have in asking anyone for help. Well, the time has come that I am reaching out to the universe to ask for help for my mom Marg Middlebrook.
Many of you know that Marg ( Mom) was a hard working Registered Nurse for 40 years. Marg was always ready willing and able to help anyone in need and came to the rescue for many friends over the years. In her younger years, Marg was well known for her love of sports especially hockey and baseball. She played hard and loved life. She retired from nursing in 2003 and that was when her health started to take a turn for the worse.
Mom came out to BC to visit with her daughter Jan close to 5 years ago. From the moment she arrived Jan could tell things were not right with Marg physically. Marg then ended up in hospital for almost 2 months. Through the years her condition with vascular disease deteriorated. She managed to have a few surgeries to improve her circulation but the inevitable finally was upon her this January.
The words that no one ever wants to hear were upon Marg and Jan . Dr Lee sat down in his office and sadly told them that a below knee amputation had to be done as soon as possible. The future was unknown.
Within 2 days the surgery took place and all seemed to be moving along smoothly. Then Marg took a turn for the worse and ended up in excrutiating pain that landed her in the MCU Unit of Eagle Ridge Hospital.
Marg ended up with a horrible infection that spread into her bone in her stump of her amputation and was now spreading into her blood which was causing her to be unresponsive,
Again, the words were spoken..... we have to further amputate as soon as possible. Now Marg was back in surgery for an above knee amputation and we had no idea what the future would hold once again.
12 days later, my Mom, Marg has come home to begin and long and difficult healing process physically and mentally. Grieving has to take place for her loss , then acceptance and then motivation to carry on so that she can once again live her life happy and healthy and enjoy her family and her first great grandchild.
The Occupational Nurse came for the home assessment and that is when we were hit with more news that literally floored us.
In order for Marg to stay in her home there were numerous items that she needed to comply with.
At this time, Marg does not qualify to enter a residential care unit or an assisted living unit as she is not well enough for either.
We are in need of some funds to help towards the purchase of a proper medical equipment and care to comply with safety aspects required to live in the home with minimal risk.
As Marg is home on a conditional pass we are hoping to raise as much as possible in the next 2 weeks so she can continue to live at home and start the healing process with as little stress possible.
Marg does have a pension but not sufficient funds to accomodate the extra medical expenses. Once Marg retired she did not have any extended medical benefits. Jan tries to help as much as possible but she is currently on disability due to her own health crisis.
I am asking for funds to put towards the purchase of the following:
*a spec compliant wheel chair that is custom for Marg to manuever independently.
*a portable shower unit that accomodates a shower or commode chair as there are no shower facilities in the basement suite of the house
*assistance for in home care once Jan returns to work
*a recliner chair that lifts a patient up to a standing position or eases them into a recliner position
* various equipent such as a commode chair, proper walker for stability, various grab bars throughout th suite and new batteries for her mobility scooter.
Please if you can donate to this very worthy cause, it will be greatly appreciated. Please lets help Marg to live the life she deserves after 40 years of helping others.
Much Love and Hugs
Jan and Marg Middlebrook
