A word from Katie:
In March this year, two of my best friends faced the unthinkable when they lost their beautiful little Baby Margot. Margot’s time was short, but her story has most certainly had a massive impact on all of those around her. We will all continue to shout her name in her absence from us.
In April next year I will be running the Brighton Marathon, to raise money for causes very close to the Abbott-Butler’s, The Meadow Suite, Kicks Count & 4Louis.
The Meadow Suite at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital supplied Margot and her family with an entirely self contained apartment, allowing them to spend special moments making memories with their little girl. They also supplied specialist equipment, meaning Megan and Dan were able to make the most of the precious time they had with Margot, whilst remaining cared for and having some home comforts.
We hope with the money raised, we can also create some self care kits to donate to the Meadows Suite. 4Louis, is a family run charity that stemmed from their own childloss. They navigated through their grief and now supply families affected with the most incredible boxes, to create even more precious moments to remember their losses with. We hope to be able to work our way through their Amazon wish list, donating lots of the items that they require to build these incredible boxes.
Kicks count, is a self funded charity that gives pregnant women access to low cost bracelets that count and monitor baby’s movements, which is essential in noticing any unusual movement patterns during pregnancy. They’re currently closed due to their donations having been reduced by over 88%, and with this being so essential in the prevention of still birth, and promotion of healthy babies, it’s something that we would love to be able to support.
To know that Megan, Dan and Reggie had such amazing support around them in such a difficult time has empowered me to raise money for these amazing causes, in the hope that a family who sadly may require these facilities in future, can be touched with their warmth.
This one is for you, little Margot.
A word from Margot’s Mummy:
On the 20th of March 2025, I went into hospital with reduced fetal movements. It was there that we received the heartbreaking news that our daughter, Margot, had passed away at 37 weeks and 4 days. She was born peacefully sleeping on the morning of the 21st of March.
From the moment we heard those words, until the moment we said our final goodbye, the care we received from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital was nothing short of incredible. We were given the space, time, and support we so desperately needed to begin grieving and loving our daughter in the only way we could.
We were cared for in the Meadow Suite — a dedicated bereavement suite within the hospital. It is a self-contained space with a kitchen, a living room, a double bed, and a private bathroom. It gave us a home-away-from-home environment to spend four precious days with Margot.
A cuddle cot allowed us to be close to her for those days. We were given a pushchair to take her to the chapel, where staff kindly closed off the private garden so we could spend time with her outdoors. Every little detail was thought of to help us create lifelong memories with our daughter.
We were also given a memory box filled with items provided by incredible charities like 4Louis :
• A camera and memory card to take as many photos of Margot as we wanted
• Hand and footprint ink kits and clay casts
• Memory boxes to keep locks of her hair
• Two matching teddies — one with Margot, one with us
• A special box for our son, filled with books and tools to help him understand his sister’s passing in a gentle, child-friendly way
All of these items, and the Meadow Suite itself, are made possible through donations — from families who have walked this impossible path before us, and from kind people who just want to help.
When Margot passed away, many people asked what they could do to help — and at the time, there wasn’t anything. But now, there is.
In Margot’s name, we are raising money for the Meadow Suite at NNUH, 4Louis, and Kicks Count — to give other families the chance to create precious memories with their babies, and to support research and awareness that we hope will one day prevent other parents from experiencing this loss.
If you are able to give anything — no matter how small — we would be so grateful. Your kindness will go further than you can imagine.
Thank you for reading, and for holding Margot in your heart
