Margo Kneeds Your Help!

Margo was having too much fun playing fetch and tore a ligament in her knee! We want her to have fun and play fetch again soon, so we are raising money for her surgery in early October.

Margo has a Caudal Cruciate Ligament Rupture (CaCL) in her right knee (kind of like a human tearing their ACL).  The stifle, or knee, is the joint between the femur and the tibia. The cranial and caudal cruciate ligaments cross over the the front of the stifle joint, and are responsible for stabilizing the joint which keeps the tibia from sliding too far forward or too far backward. This rupture has caused Margo pain and lameness in her right leg.

In order to correct this rupture in her knee, because of her size and weight, Margo will undergo a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO). This surgery levels the slope of the Tibia by cutting the bone, rotating it, and fastening it back together. This is one of the most common injuries among dogs, particularly large breeds. And the TPLO surgery is currently the best available option for this injury, with very high success rates and a hopeful return to normal activity by 6 months.

Margo has been a part of my life for nearly 8 years, providing me, my friends, and my family with love and comfort. Margo is a gentle giant, scared of most new things, but fiercely loyal to her loved ones. Margo loves hiking in the woods, naps, and cuddling with all of her stuffed animals at once. She has been there for me during good times, and bad. Knowing she will soon be going through hard times, I want to be there for her. Please support her as little or as much as you can.
