Margie’s Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
Our mother, Margie, was diagnosed with St IV terminal Gallbladder cancer in August of 2022.
This was very devastating news for our family, not only because we knew how much pain and suffering cancer patients go through, but also because after having such a turbulent and traumatic beginning of life and childhood, we didn’t want her to suffer at the end of her life as well. She is vibrant, loving and kind. She deserves a better and more peaceful end to her story.
The road to getting her final diagnosis was a long and expensive one. She had multiple tests done - a CT Scan, MRI, colonoscopy and Endoscopic ultrasound - none of which showed she had cancer. It was not until she was cut open for surgery that her doctors discovered that she had metastatic cancer.
With all the diagnostics, procedures, surgery, and interventions to manage her symptoms, we already presently owe over $40,000 in out-of-pocket medical bills. The cost continues to rise as she is still in the hospital receiving care to manage the many complications of her condition and ensure that she is comfortable and that her pain is well managed. To continue palliative care at home, we would also need to rent equipment and buy medicines to ensure her comfort, such as oxygen tanks, patient-controlled analgesia pump for her pain relievers, and total parenteral nutrition, which costs $300 per bag per day. This is her only source of nutrition as she can no longer eat due to the cancer spreading all over her gastrointestinal tract.
With the amount of medical expenses thus far, our resources are already running very low. We are knocking on your generous hearts to please help us with her outstanding medical bills and also to help us continue providing our mom with the comfort and care she deserves.
