Marge Downs Health Crisis
Donation protected
The unimaginable has happened. After a lifetime of community service, I now find myself in dire need of help. Your help, in the smallest donations will each make a profound difference.
I am a single woman who has volunteered in various capacities for the past 30 years. I currently have two part time jobs and remain without health insurance. Throughout my life, people have known me for being of service to my community and those in need. Other than working, I spend my time as a volunteer on events that engage communities to come together to celebrate and experience culture and traditions as a collective family. My projects range from providing my time and talents to helping vulnerable children, adults and pets from health awareness to the arts.
A health crisis has left me financial devastated. I realize that I have no family to help with financial support, I cannot ask for a loan-credit cards are max out and I have utilized all my resources.
The realization that I cannot pay the balance of the hospital bills, most of the doctors and the upcoming doctors’ appointments, to continue my recovery…makes me feel…very alone, overwhelmed and anxious now that these bills are due upon receipt.
How life changed…several weeks ago, I was suddenly and unknowingly hospitalized for a week. When I did not show up to work, my boss and the local fire department came to my home and found me unconscious. They rushed me to the hospital. When I awoke I learned they saved my life.
I went from a Sunday volunteer at a wellness program to the Emergency Room, followed by three days in the ICU and four days in a hospital room. I was unconscious for two of those days and was lucky enough to receive every imaginable test, with most being done more than once. Tests included: spinal tap, cardiogram, brain wave test, CT of my stomach and MRI of my head and neck. There were visits from doctors with all kinds of specialties; such as renal, infectious disease, neurology, cardiology and many more.
As of right now I am being treated for two lung infections, very low electrolytes and high fever. Doctors are evaluating if I remain vulnerable to another stroke or seizure. I was sent home with lots of follow up doctor appointments and six different prescriptions – all to help with my recovery.
This is a scary feeling.
I never thought that something like this would ever happen to me – while I was the one who always helped others. I am sorry to say, that I now need to ask for help!
I have estimated that this medical crisis has left me in a financial bind for about $50,000.
I will forever be grateful for your love and support during this most difficult and stressful time in my life.
Blessings,
Margie
