Margaret is Not Fine is a short form web series centered on overcoming trauma and the awkwardness of transitioning from coping to reentering normal life. The series follows the titular Margaret, who six months after experiencing a traumatic life-altering experience, comes out of hiding and attempts to go back to the way things were before.
The only problem is when she returns to her first college class since the incident, she learns she shares the class with the guy who caused all the trauma in the first place. Once being assigned the task of writing a short film for that class, Margaret decides to cope the only way she knows how: writing her film about what happened to her.
As Margaret gets more and more wrapped up in the creative process of bringing her story to life through her script, the lines between fact and fiction start to blur highlighting the very thin line between misery and comedy. Margaret tries desperately to keep her head above water and keep pushing through, but at the end of the day: Margaret is not fine.
This comedy/drama explores not the immediate fallout of going through something traumatic, but instead the different kind of grief that comes once the rest of the world seems to have moved on, whether or not you’ve fully recovered. Absurd, yes…but don’t believe for a moment that this is a sad story. It’s a hopeful, oftentimes funny, look at a normally tragic topic.
I have been extremely passionate about this project for months now and am beyond excited to convert this screenplay into a full fledged miniseries over the course of the rest of the year!
The budget for the film is set to be $4,800. This money will be used for:
Thank you all so much in advance for helping my filmmaking dreams come true. I look forward to making this series the best it can be, and I can’t wait to share the final product with everyone in early 2024! (exact release date TBD)
