Our friend Marcy Epstein was cooking for Passover on Wednesday morning when a spark from the pot set a basket ablaze that went up like a tinderbox – a hot and fast-moving fire. The kitchen caught fire and was completely destroyed. The rest of the house was seriously damaged by water and smoke, and is uninhabitable. Luckily, she and the dogs were not hurt, but all she was left with were the smoky clothes and slippers she was wearing at the time. The challenge ahead is daunting. It could be a year before she can move back into the house. The loss, now sinking in, is enormous. We are looking to assist Marcy with short- and medium-term needs to be able to resume living and working from home as she had been before the fire. She has found new lodging, but needs to re-quip and restock a kitchen, replace indoor and outdoor clothing, footwear, personal items, household furnishings and work materials. Who are "we"? We are a group of 6 of Marcy's Canadian (Adam) and American (the rest of the team) friends and colleagues who know we can make a difference for her during this difficult time.
