My name is Jules and I am posting this on behalf of Cooroora Netball Club in Cooran.
We are trying to raise monies on behalf of Marcus's Family who are in need of some financial support due to Marcus being diagnosed with "End Stage Kidney Disease" with a cause still unknown.
For the past few months, Marcus has beeen suffering headaches spiralling into migraines along with vomiting. After focusing on a possible head injury due to playing Gridiron last year, Marcus's doctor performed blood tests which revealed his kidneys were only working at 30% capacity with high Potassium levels. Marcus went into acute kidney failure the following day nearly losing his life. He was rushed to the emergency dept at the Nambour General Hospital, in which he spent the next 6 days in paediatrics and the renal ward where he was stabilised and started on Dialysis. He has a permanent Permacath inserted into his chest for dialysis and needs to careful of risks of infection. Marcus will now need a Kidney Transplant.
The diagnosis of end stage kindey failure was a complete shock to all his family as there is no known kidney problems in their family. To be told your 16year old once healthy son now requires a Kindey Transplant to live has made a huge impact on his family and now they are trying to come to terms with all this information.
The monies raised will be used by the family to help ease the burden of everyday living and to help with the 3 to 4 trips a week to the Dialysis department of the Hospital 25kms away from where they live as Marcus spends at least 5hrs a day there. This proceedure leaves him feeling light headed and very fatigued. Sometimes remaining in hospital longer till his blood pressure stabilises and he is allowed to go home. Parking restrictions and costs of this at the hospital only makes these days harder.
We would like to show our support to Marcus and his family as he does for us. Before he got sick he used to come to netball on a Monday or Tuesday night to show his support of his girlfriend Gemma who plays in a seniors competition. He also used to come sat mornings to support our junior comp as well.
Marcus's life, education and dreams of being a Chef have now been put on hold due to his health. We at Cooroora want to show our support and hope others do as well. There will be a financial strain on this family until they can get their lives all back on track. We would be very thankful of any donations they receive to help this family not have to stress about financial worries and so they can concentrate on Marcus and his needs at the moment.
