- I
Kori the husky, Jason Zimmer, Dr. Joshua Marcus, and Sarah (Zimmer) Marcus have lived in the beautiful Redwood Forest of Boulder Creek California for a little over two years. We have loved building our home and our lives in the Santa Cruz mountains. Last week we were evacuated due to the lightning caused forest fire, and then mere days later we discovered that our home is completely gone. All of the items that previously defined us and our home have gone up in flames. We are devastated, however, we will rebuild. We will rebuild the physical house in the same location, as we love our forest and our land. But more importantly, we will rebuild our lives. It is not going to be easy to start over, but we have each other, we have Kori to be our support husky, and we have a net of loving friends and family.
Our dream is to build a yurt so that we can live on the property while working through the difficult process of rebuilding the house.
We are insured, but the insurance money will not come close to covering the cost of all the items we owned, and there's no way to replace the sentimental value of the beautiful items we had collected throughout our lives.
We have always done our best to take care of the people around us, and ask for nothing in return. It is so hard to ask for help, and even harder to ask for money. Thank you to all of our friends who have encouraged us to accept the fact that we need help. It's very difficult to see right now what expenses will be thrown our way over the next months, but it is quickly becoming apparent that it is far more than we can tackle alone.
We are going to do as much labor and work as possible to save money where we can, but we understand that the clean-up process of the lost home, along with the cost of materials and construction of the yurt is outside of our ability to financially cover right now. Without help we will not be able to achieve this dream.
We know that times are hard for everyone right now, as so many of our friends and family have been out of work for months. Anything you are able to donate will be a tremendous help, even if it's just a dollar or two. Everything donated will go directly to helping Josh, Sarah, Jason, and Kori survive in this new life. If you can not afford to give of yourself, please share our story. Your kind words and thoughts are appreciated more than we can express.
Sincerely,
Sarah and Dr. Josh Marcus
along with Jason and Kori Zimmer

Kori doesn't understand why we can't go home to her pool.
The three of us have put so much work into this property, it will probably be overwhelming when we are able to finally go in person and see the devastation.
This is the shed we helped Jason build last year. We currently have no idea if it is still standing or not.
