As some of you may know, Marcus Coenen was admitted to the hospital last Thursday, March 14. He had been experiencing GI issues for a few days and on Thursday was having abdominal pain. While in the ER they found a blood clot restricting blood from flowing out of his small intestine.
Since being in the hospital, he has had 2 surgeries, with another scheduled for Monday March 18. Most of his small bowel has been removed. He is stable and sedated.
This has been and incredibly challenging and scary time for Bekah, their two kids, Charlotte and Florence, and Marcus' and Bekah's family and friends. We want to rally around them while things are still uncertain and provide a soft place to land during Marcus' recovery.
As we all know, medical costs can start to add up even just after a visit to the ER. The funds here will be used to cover any medical costs not covered by insurance and provide Marcus and Bekah with a safety net for any time they may need to take off of work during what is sure to be an unpredictable recovery. It will also be used to help Marcus parents, Barb and Gary, who are staying in Des Moines and will need to take time off of work to support Bekah and Marcus.
Thank you to those who have already been pitching in, financially and otherwise. Please continue help in any way you can. Marcus and Bekah are some of the best people I know and they need all the support we can give them right now.
This fundraiser is being managed by Emily Austin (Bekah's childhood friend) and Elspeth Arnold (Bekah's older sister).
