This is my father Marcos on November 24, 2020 he was admitted at UCI Medical Center due to an abscess. We thought he was going to be in and out that same day but he stayed overnight for observation and test that they were going to run on him due to the fact that he had the abscess for almost two weeks. After they ran test he received the news he had cancer called AML Leukemia.
AML is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow with excess immature white blood cells. He was in complete shock because no one in his family ever had that type of cancer and it was hard on him and us as a family.
At this point he’s had about three chemotherapy treatments and they have been working but not to the point where he can come home. Every time he’s had chemotherapy he would get side effects that he would not tolerate like really high fevers, swelling in the body and his kidneys not functioning properly which would cause him to have sleepless nights.
My father has been in the hospital for three months now and for as long as I can remember last year was the first year we got to spent Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years without him. We aren’t allowed to visit as often as we like due to COVID but we do FaceTime every day and night just to keep his spirits up because he is all alone in the hospital.
Asking for help isn't easy, but my father and family need it at this time. The cost of my fathers current care is overwhelming. If you are able to support in any capacity it would be greatly appreciated.
