At just 18 years old, Marco should be stepping into adulthood with excitement and freedom. Last year he finished school. Plans for a gap year to work, travel and see the world were made. He has plans. Big ones. Study Medical Science. Make a difference.
Instead, Marco has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive bone cancer called Ewing's sarcoma.
Airports became hospital wards.
Backpacks became treatment bags.
Freedom became fight mode.
Chemotherapy. Surgery. Procedures. Recovery.
This is his year now.
This fight is not an unfamiliar one to Marco's family. In 2023, they walked beside his father after he was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia, In September 2023, they said goodbye. The grief of losing his dad is still so fresh - and now, to be back in hospital rooms fighting another rare cancer, is almost impossible to comprehend.
And yet, despite everything, Marco remains incredibly brave, positive and determined. His strength is quiet but unwavering. He shows up to treatment with courage well beyond his years, and it's only building his motivation to study medical science and find ways to help others.
When treatment is finished and his doctors give the all-clear, Marco's dream is still the same - to travel, to experience life, and to reclaim the time that cancer has taken from him.
This won't just be a trip. It will be a celebration:
Of resilience.
Of strength.
Of survival.
of life itself.
If you can, please donate.
If you can't, please share.
Let's help Marco step into the world when this fight is over - not just as a survivor, but as a young man who refused to let cancer define his future.
