Please donate to the fund for Marco LaVecchia; a 25-year old with autism who recently lost everything he owns including his home, car, and all belongings to the tragic NC flood which has left 5 people missing.
Marco had resided at the Hiddenite Family CampGround located just right off the South Yadkin River.
He awoke on the morning of November 12th to the rising floodwaters and neighbors in a panic. Marco had decided to take quick action, as his camper home was near being swept away into the River.
He and his 2 neighbors had retreated to Marco's pickup truck bed, as a military rescue boat was on the way. Unfortunately, the waters were rising too quickly, forcing Marco and the couple to swim over to a nearby RV which was caught in a tree. The truck was swept away seconds after.
Marco, arriving first to the capsized RV, had noticed the couple unable to swim and struggling behind him. He took another course of action and swam to their rescue, pulling them up onto the RV. Marco's bravery does not stop there.
While waiting for the police boat, Marco spotted 2 dogs and a cat from another camper home which were drowning in the floodwaters. He once again retreated from the RV to rescue the animals to safety. Marco, the man and woman, and the animals were finally retrieved by the military boat right before the RV had let loose and floated downstream.
Marco, as well as, 33 other people from the Hiddenite CampGround have lost their homes and absolutely everything they own.
Marco is a hero and his disability did not render his action to save 2 lives, as well as 3 furry ones. Anyone who has ever known Marco has surely recognized his incredibly kind and always giving personality, as well as his passion to make everyone around him smile. He had just recently purchased his camper home and moved onto the grounds 6 months ago. Marco juggles 2 jobs and volunteered at Hiddenite, offering acts of service and maintenance.
Because of this tragedy, Marco is in need of basic necessities such as shirts, pants, socks, underwear, etc. As well as, toiletries and food. Any donation is greatly appreciated. If you would like to donate clothing or giftcards to Marco, please contact [phone redacted]
