Marco Ortiz's funeral expenses & med bills

On December 4th, 2021, Marco Ortiz was hospitalized and diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma stage 4 cancer, a very rare and aggressive cancer. Cholangiocarcinoma is a non-curable cancer. Due to the location of the tumor, it was virtually impossible to perform any form of surgery to remove the tumor. The goal was to prolong his life and to try to shrink it and keep it at bay, so it does not spread to other organs.

This diagnosis was surely devastating. Our worst nightmare was happening before our eyes. Despite the shock, till the last breath, we never lost hope. We promised him that we will fight until the end, we assured him that we will stay by his side every step of the way and that we will support him no matter what.

After the initial hospitalization and diagnosis. As a family we decided to consult a specialist in his specific cancer. Thanks to Jehovah, we were all able to get Marco a quick appointment for a second opinion in one of the best hospitals in Chicago. Rush University Medical Center quickly put together their best team of professional Oncologists at his disposal. Unfortunately, they confirmed the same diagnosis. The following week he started an aggressive chemotherapy.

Everyone that has gone through the trauma of seeing your loved one suffer from this treatment can understand how hard this can be on the patient and on their family members. He started losing weight, losing appetite and taste and even losing his strength. He couldn’t walk too much and was sleeping often for his body to further battle the cancer.

After the tests showed that his tumor hadn't shrunk, it was determined that a second type of chemotherapy was needed. Everything seemed to be going ok, but then complications started setting in. He started to get more and more bad symptoms and he quickly deteriorated during the last month of his life. Despite a long fight with many treatments and everyone's help, Marco fought to the end and passed away 5 months later.

As a family, we thought and hoped that we had more time with him. Everything came to us as a shock. There are many finalizing arrangements to be handled. This includes funeral expenses, medical bills and care of his wife. Many have asked how they can help, unfortunately we do not know the exact amount for all expenses. Please if you are not able to contribute financially, we completely understand; it would be heartbreaking if someone was contributing more than they can afford but if you are in a position to contribute anything it would be greatly appreciated and needed. Marco was the strongest man we knew. An amazing servant of Jehovah, a great husband, father, brother and son that fought to the end with all that he had. We know that he is in the safest place right now, in Jehovah God’s memory.

El 4 de diciembre de 2021, Marco Ortiz, fue hospitalizado y diagnosticado con cáncer de cholangiocarcinoma en etapa 4, un cáncer muy raro y agresivo. El cholangiocarcinoma es un cáncer incurable. Debido a la ubicación del tumor, era prácticamente imposible realizar cualquier tipo de cirugía para extirpar el tumor. El objetivo era prolongar su vida y tratar de reducir el tamaño del tumor para que no se propague a otros órganos.

Este diagnóstico fue sin duda devastador. Nuestra peor pesadilla había empezado A pesar del susto, hasta el último suspiro, nunca perdimos la esperanza. Le prometimos que lucharíamos hasta el final, le aseguramos que estaríamos a su lado en cada paso del camino y que lo apoyaríamos pase lo que pase.

Después de la hospitalización inicial y el diagnóstico, decidimos consultar como familia a un especialista en su cáncer. Gracias a Jehová, pudimos conseguirle una cita rápida para una segunda opinión en uno de los mejores hospitales de Chicago. Rush University Medical Center reunió rápidamente a su mejor equipo de oncólogos profesionales y lo puso a su disposición. Desafortunadamente, confirmaron el mismo diagnóstico. A la semana siguiente comenzó una quimioterapia agresiva.

Todos los que han pasado por el trauma de ver a su ser querido sufrir este tratamiento pueden comprender lo difícil que puede ser para el paciente y sus familiares. Empezó a perder peso, perdió el apetito y el gusto e incluso perdió la fuerza. No podía caminar mucho y dormía a menudo para que su cuerpo siguiera luchando contra el cáncer.

Después de que las pruebas mostraron que su tumor no se había reducido, se determinó que se necesitaba un segundo tipo de quimioterapia. Todo parecía ir bien, pero luego comenzaron las complicaciones. Comenzó a tener más y más síntomas graves y se deterioró rápidamente durante el último mes de su vida. A pesar de una larga lucha con muchos tratamientos y la ayuda de todos, el termino su batalla solo 5 meses después.

Como familia, pensábamos y esperábamos tener más tiempo con él. Todo pasó muy rápido e inesperadamente. Aún quedan muchos arreglos por finalizar. Estos incluyen gastos de funeral, médicos y para el cuidado de su querida esposa. Muchos han preguntado cómo pueden ayudar, lamentablemente aun no sabemos el monto exacto de todos los gastos. Por favor, si no puede contribuir monetariamente, lo entendemos completamente. Marco supo ganarse el amor, respeto y admiración de todos, y ser un esposo, padre, hijo y hermano ejemplar; alguien quien lucho hasta el final con todo lo que tenía. Sabemos que ahora mismo está en el lugar más seguro; en la memoria de Jehová Dios.
