MARCIA WOOD - JOURNEY TO FIGHT CANCER

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Joyce, but this story isn't about me. This story is about my sister, Marcia Wood (Howell), who was diagnosed with cancer in February.

It began when Marcia felt a lump in her abdomen. Over the next few months, that lump began growing and causing pain, specifically in her lower back. She went to the doctor and the tests began. On March 6th she had an appointment with a GYN/Oncologist at Emory University Hospital-Midtown Atlanta. She was diagnosed with Endometroid Adenocarcinoma cancer. Because of the size of the tumor (softball) her doctor wanted to remove it as soon as possible.

On March 21st, Marcia was in surgery for 6 1/2 hours, which didn't include prep time, etc. The tumor had grown from the size of a softball to that of a small canteloupe. They also removed two smaller tumors and three enlarged lymph nodes. There remains a tumor that is located at the root of her small bowel. The surgeon said if she had removed it, there was a high risk of damaging the blood flow which would cause the colon to die. We were able to take her home on the 23rd. She was so happy to be in her home, but especially in her bed.

Marcia's first chemo infusion was on April 10th, which she tolerated very well. She will receive six cycles, one every three weeks. This will be a difficult journey for Marcia and those of us who love her so much, but that woman is a fighter.

So many people have asked what they can do to help. It was suggested that we create this account so friends and family can contribute towards the extra expenses being incurred now and in the future, including the overnight hotel expense the nights prior to her treatments. housecleaning, meals, etc. The treatments are in Atlanta and as most of you know, she lives in Warner Robins (south of Macon).

Anyone who knows Marcia knows that she is not one to ask for help, but she is the one who is typically helping others. She is also independent in that when something needs to be done, she just does it. When she agreed for me to create this account it wasn't for herself, but to help those who are incurring expenses to come to care for her, and take her to treatments/appointments, as well as uncovered medical expenses. During a time when she should be thinking of herself, she is thinking of others incurring expenses. That's Marcia! Every penny contributed will be used for Marcia's medical and personal care.

Additionally, there is a Caring Bridge page on which we provide updates on Marcia's progress. Every once in a while, Marcia pops in there with a personal note from herself.

Marcia and her family appreciate each one of you. Please keep Marcia, the medical staff, caregivers, and her family in your prayers.

Thank you for your prayers and generosity!
