Marci Likens needs our help!

Hi - My name is Julie Garner, and I am the women's golf coach at Rollins College. Those who know me know this is far from my wheelhouse. But when I caught up recently with Marci Likens, I was motivated to act. I had called Marci to thank her for all the work she has done to help our golf program with our home tournament every spring. One way in particular she went far beyond was she refurbished all the handmade tee markers my late father had made - sanded, touched up and repainted all of them. She even fashioned a carrier for them so they would not be damaged in storage or transit. They are hugely sentimental to me and knowing that, she took action to preserve them. She has volunteered from dawn to dark and helped with scoring, shuttling players, handing out lunches, and coordinating other volunteer shifts. She is a volunteer warrior in many areas of the Orlando community, not just golf.

When I chatted with her she revealed that she was flooded out of her home due to Hurricane Ian. In over 30 years of living there their home had never flooded. She and her late husband had not even considered flood insurance. Obviously that Ian changed everything in her life. Estimates to repair and refurbish her home are in the tens of thousands of dollars, and FEMA has given $4000 towards the repair.

I am hoping the central Florida golf community can rally around her and help her get back on her feet and back into her home. Until then she is living with friends, dogsitting for some folks and monitoring the repairs. Please share her story and donate if you are so inclined - I promise you she has given way more to this world, and now she needs us to give back a little of that love. All donations will go directly to the home repairs incurred for Hurricane Ian damage.
