For those of you who do not know our story…

November 3, 2015 I gave birth very prematurely to our sweet angel Anees at 24 weeks. The reason he came into the world so early is that I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. I won't go into all the details, but it caused my organs to shut down and I was required to stay in hospital on bed rest. To save my life, we had to deliver the baby. This meant that he was a micro preemie with a very small chance to survive.

We felt thankful to be in a level 3 hospital which had a well known NICU. NICU was our son's home his entire life. A baby’s NICU stay is like a roller coaster ride, with ups and downs, triumphs and setbacks. His lungs were under developed and he relied on ventilators to help him breathe. Consequently, the machine that was helping him breathe impacted his heart and he developed other issues which took his life in May of 2016. The amazing developments in medical technology kept him alive. If he was born even 3 years previous he would not have had a chance. My child was real! We believed his lungs would heal and grow with time, and we had plans for him to come home. Being devastated is an understatement.

People often ask if we are going to try and have another child. I try hard not to get emotional! I know Anees would want us to have more kids. We want more kids! I know that he could never be forgotten or replaced. This question is hard for me as I am absolutely terrified to be pregnant again. After the whole ordeal, I am lucky that I am not on dialysis or worse. Having had such severe preeclampsia, doctors have advised that I have 30-55% chance of developing it again. This is a risk our family has decided not to take at this time, and we are hoping for more research to help find a cure soon. I have been speaking with specialists and keep asking - why we don’t have a medicine to prevent this horrible disease! I keep being told to donate to March of Dimes.

March of Dimes works to end premature birth and other problems that threaten our babies. They help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy children, working on preventative treatments. If something goes wrong, they even offer information and comfort to families.

After learning more about this great organization, I have decided to fundraise as much as possible and donate 100% of the proceeds in Anees’ name! Please - any amount helps. Below is the link to a go fund me page. Feel free to share our story.
