Marcelle’s Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
On a Sunday Morning, September 29th to be exact, Marcelle received a call that she has been waiting on for 10 years…
A matched kidney…
Within minutes a suitcase was packed and on their way to the IWK in Halifax.
This was the third such call over the past few years, so everyone remained cautiously optimistic, but on Monday afternoon (September 30th) Marcelle went into the operating room and received the new kidney.
The next few weeks were spent in Halifax; both in the hospital and once stable, in a hotel close by so they could free up a hospital bed.
Certainly the gift of life is priceless, yet came at a cost to someone’s family and we cannot thank them enough for this amazing gift.
Marcelle is now home and doing well, but a journey remains. This kidney is a new lease on life, but also a start of a new stream of costs. Medicare pays for some, but not all, Marcelle will be travelling to Halifax for routine checkups, will be taking anti-rejection drugs for the rest of her life, add to that hotel stays, gas, tolls and parking. It all adds up and adds up in a hurry.
We would like to raise a little money for Marcelle to be able to focus on getting better and reduce the stress about the next bill, for those known and future unknown costs.
All donations will go directly to Marcelle and will be used for the costs associated with taking care of her and her new kidney.
Marcelle and the Leger family have spent years raising funds for others less fortunate in their community, its time we give back and help her.
Thank you for your time.
