Hello! My name is Marcell Nemes, and I'm a four and a half-year-old kindergartener with a big dream. I was born with Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, but let me share my story with you.

When I was just two years old, I loved playing with my little Porsche car, dreaming of becoming a racing driver one day. One day, while I was zooming my toy car around the pediatric neurology department waiting room, my parents and I were called in to see the doctor. What we heard next changed our lives forever. The doctor told us that I had a muscle disease that would make me unable to walk by the age of ten. He said I would need a ventilator by the age of twenty, and eventually, my heart muscles would weaken to the point where I would die. I couldn't imagine what it would be like, because I'm the same as all the other kindergarteners. And I can’t imagine it today, either. Why would I be different when I grew up? I'll be healthy too!

My parents were devastated. My mom cried inconsolably, her tears flowing until we finally fell asleep.

That night, I had a dream. I was falling out of a boat, sinking into the water. But I wasn’t afraid. I saw something shining below and swam towards it until my mom pulled me out and held me tight. It felt so good, so safe.

That dream gave me strength. It was then that I decided I wouldn't let anything stop me. I believe in winning, and I still dream of becoming a racing driver when I grow up.

Now, I need your help to make my dream come true. My parents and I are hoping to find 60,000 heroes willing to donate fifty euros each to help us afford a life-changing gene therapy called Elevidys. With your support, I can keep moving forward and inspire others facing the same battle.
