Our nephew Marc has been in and out of the hospital since he suffered a Brain Aneurysm Rupture in December 2022. In April 2023 Marc attempted to return to work and had an Ischemic Stroke 2 days later resulting in partial left leg paralysis.
As a result he was once again not able to work and had to go back on Unemployment Insurance. Unfortunately between the above 2 incidents his EI maxed out and he was left waiting for Blue Cross, his employers insurance to accept him which took several more weeks causing the family significant financial hardship. His wife Victoria was left to be the sole provider, working additional hours to survive and cover bills that were piling up. Blue Cross only covers 66% of his wages.
A month ago that pressure caused Marc to become ill again, migraines daily, excessive overheating, and very dizzy/weak. This left Victoria to miss shifts from work to watch over him.
Two weeks ago Marc collapsed at home and had a seizure. He was sent home to her care with no support and an expectation to follow-up with family doctor and await a Neurologist. Marc continues to suffer 1-2 seizures daily and is now required to wear a helmet for his safety. He is unable to be left alone as there doesn't seem to be an understanding as to what is triggering these Seizures. Victoria applied to Home and Community Care for support at home to have PSW stay with Marc and she was declined because she admitted she is capable of assisting him with showers and personal care and they don't offer services to just "watch him for his safety". Even with doctors advocating they again were declined. She was forced in a position to work or miss a shift, set up cameras in her home and had to pray he didn't have a Seizure or fall further injuring himself or risking paralysis.
On October 2, 2023, on the advice of a RN, Marc was told to return to the hospital due to excessive seizure activity. He is unable to be alone, get himself a meal or advocate for himself due to extreme weakness, exhaustion and inability to recognize that he's had a seizure. His wife was forced again to miss some shifts at work and be at his side to advocate for him.
Victoria is continuing to do her best to juggle working and travelling back and forth to the hospital daily and this, added to their financial struggles due to Marc being unable to work has only causing far more stress on them with gas and parking expenses etc. to and from the hospital as well.
Marc has been admitted to the hospital with serious neurological concerns, been told he is a "medical mystery" and they are actively trying to find answers as to the causation of the seizures.
If you can find it in your heart, any dime or quarter helps, please help support this family during this very difficult and trying time.
