Maratona dles Dolomites - Cycle for Charity
On the 7 July, alongside 9,000 other riders, I will be attempting to complete the 138km cycle (4,230m altitude gain) of the Maratona dles Dolomites covering seven mountain passes. I anticipate it will take me ~9 hours and despite some training will push me to my physical limits!
As part of this I'm raising money to benefit The Charlie Waller Trust, and any donation will help make an impact. Did you know that:
- Suicide is the most common cause of death in 10 to 34 year olds
- 22% of 19 year olds have experienced a probable mental health disorder
- 2021: 24% of young people report having self-harmed during the previous year
- 2023: 12.4% of 17-19 year olds experience an eating disorder
- 26.8% of young people will have experienced a degree of suicidal ideation by the age of 24
The Charlie Waller Trust was founded in response to the tragic death of Charlie in 1997. On the outside Charlie had everything to live for but was suffering depression and tragically took his own life.
The Charlie Waller Trust works with young people, parents and carers, schools, colleges, universities and employers. It gives them practical tools and strategies and the confidence to look after their mental health.
The Trust’s vision is of a world where people understand and talk openly about depression, where young people know how to maintain wellbeing, and where the most appropriate treatment is available to everyone who needs it.
Any donation would be much appreciated. Thank you!
