You may have seen in the news that one of the most important sites in the history of computing, codebreaking and the second World War, Bletchley Park, is facing a financial crisis due to the COVID-19 restrictions. The Bletchley Park Trust is a registered charity (1012743) and there are many ways to support them, including donations, becoming a friend and by sponsoring a brick on their Codebreakers' Wall (More details on ways to help here: https://bletchleypark.org.uk/support-us )

Bletchley Park has a Codebreakers' Wall to commemorate veterans, their families and supporters of the historic site. There are 13,651 veterans recognised in the Bletchley Park Roll of Honour. Of these, according to our research (to be confirmed by Bletchley Park) when we started fundraising, there were 10,037 named veterans without their own commemorative brick on the wall. We'd like to try and change this, while also providing some much-needed support for Bletchley Park.

By our (extremely rough) calculations, there are approx. 2000 remaining available bricks on the existing Codebreakers' Wall. Maybe at some point in the future, Bletchley Park can extend the wall to ensure all veterans can be included. In the meantime, we'd like to try and do all we can to raise awareness and to try and reduce the number of heroes who are yet to be commemorated.

So many of us working in Information Security roles would not have jobs without the incredible groundbreaking work done by the veterans of Bletchley Park. So far, we have managed to raise sufficient funding to purchase an extra 20 bricks for previously uncommemorated Bletchley Park heroes, and in the process raising more than £3,000 to support this amazing site.

This GoFundMe page is to try and raise money for another 10 bricks (veteran's names to be chosen at random), as we, Kathryn Hedley and Sarah Edwards, pledge to run/walk an entire marathon distance within 24 hours on Christmas Eve 2020. Note: We've never done that distance before!

For everyone who donates at least £15, you can choose a song to go on the playlist that we will listen to during our efforts.

For everyone who donates at least £50, we will take a selfie at a London zone 1 (Kat) or Washington DC or Arlington (Sarah) landmark of your choice and post it to Twitter as we provide updates throughout the day.
