Ik ben Daimy en ren op 19April de marathon van leuven.

Hiervoor haal ik geld op voor ME/CVS. Sinds mijn 16e heb ik de diagnose ME/CVS en heb ik hiervoor in een revalidatietraject gezeten. Myalgische Encefalomyelitis/Chronisch Vermoeidheidssyndroom (ME/CVS) is een complexe, chronische aandoening die wordt gekenmerkt door extreme vermoeidheid, verergering van klachten na inspanning en cognitieve stoornissen, die niet verbeteren door rust.

Ik was uitgevallen van school, sociaal leven en sporten. Mij was verteld dat ik moest streven naar een einddoel waarmee het mogelijk zou zijn om te werken en af en toe iets sociaals te kunnen doen.

Er werd zelfs meerdere keren 'gegrapt' (niet zo heel grappig) dat ik nooit een marathon zou kunnen rennen.

Nu ben ik hier om het tegendeel te bewijzen. Om aan mijzelf en anderen een hoop te geven dat het nog anders kan. Ondanks dat ik na trainingen pijn ervaar, is het nu een pijn die ik in controle heb.

Ik zou graag ooit willen dat er een behandeling komt voor ME/CVS, en wil hierom dus geld ophalen om te doneren aan het ME/CVS fonds.

My name is Daimy and on April 19th I will run the Leuven Marathon.

I am raising money for ME/CFS. Since I was 16, I have been diagnosed with ME/CFS and have been through a rehabilitation program for it. Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a complex, chronic disorder characterized by extreme fatigue, post-exertional malaise, and cognitive dysfunction that is not improved by rest.

I had fallen behind in school, my social life, and sports. I was told that I should aim for an end goal that would make it possible to work and occasionally participate in social activities.

It was even “joked” several times (not very funny) that I would never be able to run a marathon.

Now I am here to prove the opposite. To show myself and others that things can be different. Even though I experience pain after training, it is now a pain that I can control.

I hope that one day there will be a treatment for ME/CFS, and that is why I am raising money to donate to the ME/CFS fund.
