Marathon Run for Ken & Motor Neurone Disease
I’ll be running my first marathon on 22nd October, and I’d be grateful for your support to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease research (MND).
I’ll be running 42.2km in memory of my cousin Ken Swadling who recently passed from MND.
MND is a rare neurological condition that affects the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movements. Over time, these cells degenerate, leading to muscle weakness, difficulty speaking, swallowing, and eventually paralysis. The exact cause is often unknown, and there is currently no cure, although treatments can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
Ken was a smart, funny, polite, feisty and determined person. From the time Ken was diagnosed with MND to the time of his passing was two years and 5 months. Ken was only 52 years old. During Ken’s last year of life he could not move. For the last 5 months he could not speak. Ken understood everything that was happening to him until his very last breath. He was truly brave.
All funds raised will go directly to MND Australia towards research and care.
The marathon is the Three Bridges Run in Sydney. I’ll share some updates here over the next few weeks as my preparation ramps up!
Thanks for any contribution you are prepared to make!
