Marathon Run for Jakub Rygielski

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ksawery (Zack) Biskup.

Kasia Rygielski (my immediate cousin) was  in her third trimester and pregnant with her twins, Joanna and Jakub (Jacob), when she began to have contractions. She received an ultra sound to determine if everything  with the twins was okay. The doctor determined that the twins were okay, and that they could continue with the planned delivery the next morning.

A few hours later, she wasn't feeling right and requested an additional ultrasound be performed. A different doctor determined that the umbilical cord was wrapped around Jakub's neck and rushed my cousin to the operating table for an emergency cesarean section (C-section). But timing is everything, Joanna was born exceptionally healthy, but for Jakub, the damage was done. Jakub's brain had been without oxygen for an unknown amount of time.

Jakub Rygielski, is an extraordinary little ball of sunshine and laughter. He's a precious baby boy of one and a half years and loves licking spoons (pictured above) and chewing on his thumb. He smiles from cheek to cheek when you hold him, laughs uncontrollably when you play peek-a-boo, and BOY, does he love milk!

He's just like any other baby that you may have been blessed to hold, only stronger.  Stronger in the way that he has to battle with Cerebral Palsy (CP) everyday.

CP is a disorder relating to the brain (cerebral) and the usage of muscles (palsy). The disorder effects everyone differently but has effected Jakub in his physical development and may have already effected his intellectual ability (too early to tell). He has trouble sitting on his own , crawling and holding up his head under its own weight. In order to help him develop as best as possible, he requires hours of strenuous in home and hospitalized care from medical professionals. Watching him struggle with in home therapy was debilitating, but a necessity for his development.

My cousin is now seeking legal compensation from the doctor and the hospital for the lack of oversight and proper protocol. Both the physical therapy and legal process is costly and has had a significant financial hardship on her and her family. In order to continue receiving critical care and compensation, we hope to donate enough money to give Jakub a fair shot at a comfortable life. One that may require one less physical therapy session or one less hospital visit. A comfortable life that most of us take for granted.

Jakub became my god-son in August of 2018, a moment that immediately marked the two us best friends for life. A moment that requires great responsibility and the ability to be a good role-model. These requirements made me question my ability to do so because we are separated by a vast blue ocean and over 4,000 miles of air travel. He and his loving family live in Poland and I live in New Jersey, but I knew if I could help him, even in the smallest way possible, this was a good way to start.

On October 19, 2019, Mary Lee Agrusti and I will be running the Brookly Marathon. In running, we hope to raise $1,000 to help Jakub (Jacob) Rygielski battle his disorder and help his family with legal fees. As a best friend and god-father, this is the least I could do. Please join us in our contribution to help Jakub.
