Marathon in Memory of Brent
Donation protected
My dad, Brent Deshaies, lost his battle to colon cancer on October 23rd, 2018 when he was only 47 years old. Since his passing, I’ve thought about him every day and now I feel closest to him when I’m running. I love to think about fun times we all had as a family in Plattsburgh and on Lake Champlain. If you knew my dad, then you know the lake was his absolute favorite place. At first, thinking about these times was hard but since time has passed, I have a new appreciation for those special memories. I know a lot of people are in similar situations and so many individuals and families are fighting cancer. This is why I’ve decided to run a marathon in honor of my dad, Brent Deshaies. I’m running to honor him but to also raise money for all the people who are battling cancer. My dad was treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. As a patient, he was treated with kindness and received specialized treatments made possible by innovative research. It’s my hope that I can raise money to donate to this amazing place to support cancer research and families who are battling this disease.
I want this experience to be as personal and community oriented as possible so I’m planning out my own 26.2-mile-long course through Plattsburgh and Cumberland head. I want to share the rest of my training experiences with everyone up until the day of my marathon run on Saturday, July 24th. Throughout the next few months, I run to honor my dad and individuals/families who have been impacted by this disease. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook for updates and please share this link with family and friends so we can raise as much money as we can to donate to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center!
