Marathon for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie ️
As many of you will know, our beautiful little Sophie was diagnosed with cancer- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia- in Jan 2023, aged just 7. This plunged us into a world we never wanted to experience.
Sophie’s dad Roger & his cousin Paul Quirke are running the marathon this year to raise vital funds to say thank you to Aoibheann's Pink Tie from us for all they have done for Sophie.
Aoibheann's Pink Tie is an incredible charity that provides practical and financial support to families of children receiving treatment for childhood cancer.
Linda from APT was one of the first people we met on St John’s Oncology Ward in Crumlin as we struggled to come to grips with & process this devastating diagnosis.
APT supply emergency hospital packs to families like ours whose world imploded in an instant. They include special vests for the child’s Freddie (Hickman line) where they receive chemo, they also organised a bespoke, special Hickman Drysuit which was the first thing that really brought a smile back to Sophie’s face when she was able to go back swimming with her Freddie line safe.
Some families need financial support from the charity to survive and they also provide overnight accommodation in Dublin during chemotherapy treatment which we were so grateful for as the travelling is very hard on poor Sophie when she’s feeling unwell. Sometimes it may be a special gift or a trip that is provided for a sick child and their family.
The premise for all of these ideas was born out of heartbreak when APT founder Jimmy Norman lost his precious little girl Aoibheann to cancer aged just 8 so he & his family have unfortunately walked this same road.
APT receive no government funding & depend on the kindness of people like you to continue to help people like us get through this worst of times.
