Marajae’s Fight to Freedom

These are the Garcias. A lot of people use the phrase “family is everything.” Over the last month, they’ve proved they live by that motto.

Guillain-Barre (gee-YAH-buh-RAY) syndrome is a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. Weakness and tingling in your hands and feet are usually the first symptoms.

Marajae, only 22 and the oldest daughter in the family, experienced these strange feelings over the course of a couple days, losing basic strength.

These sensations quickly spread, eventually paralyzing part of her body. As time went on, her symptoms got even worse. The paralysis was spreading, pain set in, trouble breathing and the overwhelming fear of “am I going to make it through this?”

The lungs were losing the fight to breathe but Marajae continued to push through.

With a disorder like this that has no cure, there is not much to be done other than continue to believe and PRAY. It may be months or even years before we see Marajae close to her full strength.

This family has dropped everything in their life INCLUDING their full time careers to be with their daughter in this troubling time. While we are optimistic Marajae will pull through over the coming weeks or months, it is a long up-hill battle that will require the support of her beloved family; 4 siblings and her two parents Joe and Rosemary.

We ask that you help support the family, as they have no income during this time. All donations will go directly to the family to cover basic day-to-day needs, bills and resources to continue Marajae’s aid. With gas prices on the rise again, we all know how hard it must be to manage the trips to the hospital and back home.

The family has already been hit with test and procedures which are not covered by their current medical insurance. As Marajae recovers, she will need treatment and devices that will come out of pocket to the family. The possibility of a service dog is being considered, which is not a cheap process. If monetary donations are not possible, information, connections or recommendations for service dogs are welcomed as well.
