Maple's Busy Morning

Hi! My name is Linda Bassick and I am a long time early educator and musician based in Burlington, Vermont.

I have written a children’s album with Greg Rothwell, and have recorded the music with musician Eli Goldman and a string section from the VYO.

The album was released on bandcamp April 2, 2022.

We are continuing our work with visual artist Jackson Tupper and animators, Joe DeStefano and James Kowalski at Simple Creature.

The money we raised from our first round of donations helped to defray some of the costs of recording, mixing and mastering the album.

We also received a grant of $1000 from BCA which enabled us to get one of the songs Animated!

Thank you to James and Joe at Simple Creature for the VERY large discount and finishing the animation to the song “Choose What You Choose”.

"Maple's Busy Morning" follows the first part of a day in the life of a very young child.

Through the music and the animation Maple shows how everyday activities provide opportunities for connection.

The gender of our main character is intentionally ambiguous because IT DOESN'T MATTER! 

And…

We hope ALL children WHATEVER their gender will identify with our creation!

The songs provide positive seeds of self talk for young developing minds.

The music takes us from before Maple wakes up through a busy active morning up until naptime.

Folks who are listening to the album have told me that the sequence of songs near the end of the album actually put their child to sleep!

They avoid listening to it if they don’t want their child to nap!

This work is the first part of an ongoing series that follows our main character Maple.
