The consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine continue to be felt all over the world. The pressures on inflation, supplies, food and fuel security have had a ripple effect around the globe. The citizens of Ukraine are at the epicenter of this tumultuous time.
Back in March of 2022 at the start of the war, the Maple Bear network across the world rallied together in support through a global fundraising initiative launched by Maple Bear Global Schools and Maple Bear Central and Eastern Europe. It provided the funds needed to support the affected families and staff at the Maple Bear school in Kyiv including the preparations needed to build a certified bomb shelter in the basement.
We are so grateful for this outpouring of support.
But now, Maple Bear Kyiv needs your help once again to offer their students a comfortable learning environment.
In the heart of the bitter cold harsh winter that Ukrainians know all too well, our Kyiv school is facing serious challenges accessing basic heating and electricity. The school`s electricity and heating are powered by a generator as key electricity and heating infrastructures in the country are destroyed in the war. The power generator runs on fuel, which is delivered to the school. The cost of the generator’s fuel per month is about CAD 5,000.
Rodney Briggs, Founder and Chairman of Maple Bear Global Schools, and Maple Bear Central and Eastern Europe covered the cost of the gas for January.
But winter doesn’t end in January and the coldest months are yet to come.
Today, we are asking our global network of schools and parents to help Maple Bear Kyiv by supporting the ongoing fuel costs that will maintain a warm and comfortable learning environment in the school for the remaining months of winter, at a minimum for February and March.
This will enable the 50 Maple Bear Kyiv children from 2 to 10 years of age and their teachers to continue learning, in a well-lit, warm, safe and secure environment. Most days parents will also stay in the school building to work and be close to their children.
We hope to be able to have the power of the global network behind us and help the school continue teaching throughout the winter!
Thank you for supporting the Maple Bear Kyiv students and teachers.
Sincerely,
