Hello! My name is Jessie, and I am a University of Washington doctoral student and registered nurse in the emergency department. I'm partnering with a local community in Tanzania to raise funds for an ultrasound machine for their hospital. In 2017, I spent three months in Manyoni, Tanzania, where, with the help of friends and family, we donated an oxygen concentrator to the local hospital. This allowed the hospital to care for more patients and inspired me to continue to work in partnership with this community. Now, 10 years later, I am getting ready to go back with a larger goal in mind. Access to perinatal healthcare is limited, and many mothers walk long distances to reach care. Our goal is to bring an ultrasound machine to St. Maria de Mattias Hospital, expanding perinatal care to a rural town. We have talked with a representative from Siemens (medical device company) who is helping identify the best machine to fit the hospital's needs and environment. This will ensure our investment will not only be effective, but sustainable.

Your support will allow every mother to hear her baby's heartbeat and reduce the risk of maternal mortality. Every woman should have access to safe perinatal healthcare, no matter where she lives. Together we can make childbirth safer in Manyoni. Thank you for your support (:
