On July 11th, 2019 the Morgan community lost one of its most vibrant, radiant, and motivational student leaders. Manuel Luis Jr., was a sophomore Business Administration Major, hailing from Hyattsville, MD. Manuel, also known as Manny, was on track to becoming Mr.Latino Student Association for the 2019-2020 academic school year. Manny had just finished his term as a student senator for the sophomore class of 2022. Manny loved his Job not only due to his love for his school but also because of his want to make incoming freshmen feel accepted and welcomed. During the time of his passing, he served the morgan community as a student peer mentor for the incoming class of 2023. Manny strived to bridge the gap between incoming and existing students. The leadership qualities Manny displayed blazed a trail for students and student leaders alike to follow. Manny’s ecstatic personality allowed him to create a culture of optimism and resilience which impacted the current Morgan State Community in ways indescribable. Thus, Leaving his imprint as both an honor scholar and a student leader alike. His presence and smile could illuminate a room no matter their disposition or circumstances. According to Baltimore.gov, his death was the 7th homicide to occur in month of July in the Baltimore city region. Manuel was killed due to senseless gun violence. We ask your help to support the Luis family in their time despair. Any contribution no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated.
