Assault and Surgery Recovery
Hello Everyone,
The baby of our family is our little brother, David “Manuel” Gonzales (23) who was viciously attacked while attempting to stop his friend from being jumped on New Year’s morning by a group of drunk men. He stopped the assailants from stomping his friend’s head, however they redirected their rage to our brother. Manuel is now hospitalized with injuries, the injury impacting him the most is the broken “tibia” bone in his right leg. He underwent surgery due to the bone being broken in half, a screw and rod were placed. He is still hospitalized and has started physical therapy today. He is exhausted, in-and-out due to being medicated, but he is working hard to be released. Police are investigating and we pray they find the assailants.
A little about Manuel...he is laidback, a spiritualist, yoga & meditation enthusiast, nature & book lover, humble being, and an extremely bright young man. Manuel does not drink and does not resort to violence, so this assault is even more unsettling.
Manuel started a new job, however due to his injuries the doctors have advised him it will take six months to a year for full recovery. The financial stress is increased because some of our family have lost work due to COVID impacts, but as a family we are trying to pull together to take care of him when he is released. My little sister (Patricia) is taking him in, but she was one of the many affected by a COVID layoff. We are not even sure about the medical costs yet, since he just started a new job and the insurance is not available. Manuel will also need equipment for mobility, since he cannot do it on his own. Currently he requires 24-hour care, which our family is supplying.
Thank you for reading our story, if you are able to help...it is much appreciated. We also understand everyone may not be able to, so if you cannot please share this so others possibly can. ❤️
Respectfully,
LaToyyia, Rachel, Patricia, Laura, and Shaiayn
